A specialised field of expertise, one must first understand the unique features of the Asian nose:

Asian noses have cartilages that are smaller and softer (than Caucasian noses), causing the nose to appear flatter.

Asian noses tend to have a depressed nose bridge and a short columella, causing the tip of the nose to appear flatter.

Some Asian noses are relatively short, causing the nose to turn upwards and the nostrils to be seen more prominently.

Asian noses tend to have wider nostrils, causing them to appear flared.

FAQ on Rhinoplasty

What is the difference between Hybrid™ Rhinoplasty and Traditional Rhinoplasty?

Hybrid™ rhinoplasty is specifically designed for the Asian nose. Compared to traditional rhinoplasty, Hybrid™ Rhinoplasty gives more optimal refinement and proportion for Asian noses. This technique involves using a customised implant for the nasal structure and the patient’s own cartilage for nose tip refinement, as well as narrowing of the base of the nose.

What are the different types of nose surgery?

Open and Closed Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty is a technique where the plastic surgeon makes a small z-shaped incision underneath the columella (the area between the nostrils). While this will leave some minor scarring, it is necessary when more significant alterations to the nose are needed.

Closed rhinoplasty, on the other hand, is a technique that allows all incisions to be made inside the nostril. While this means that there will be no visible scarring at all, it may only be suitable for more minor alterations to the nose.

Cosmetic and Functional Nose Surgery

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is performed to change the appearance of the nose for purely aesthetic reasons. This may be to make one’s nasal bridge taller, or their nostrils smaller.

On the other hand, functional rhinoplasty is done to correct structural defects or traumatic injuries of the nose, with the goal to improve its function. A common procedure is the septoplasty to correct a deviated septum, which can improve one’s breathing.

Is rhinoplasty a permanent procedure?

The results of a well-performed rhinoplasty in Singapore generally last a lifetime. However, as it does not stop the natural ageing process, you may notice some subtle drooping as you age. Besides that, rhinoplasty is a type of plastic surgery procedure that generally does not require follow-up procedures.

How long after rhinoplasty will I see the final results?

While initial post-operative swelling decreases within a few weeks, some amount of swelling will continue to linger on for months. On average, one can only see the final results of their rhinoplasty after about a year from their surgery.

Will rhinoplasty leave visible scars?

This will depend on the technique used. In a closed rhinoplasty, the incisions will be made inside the nostrils, so there will be no visible scars. In an open rhinoplasty, however, a small incision will be made across the columella, the tissue separating the nostrils, and thus will result in a small scar.
